Johnson, Earl McClellan (P2, C3, L1)

Private First Class Earl M. Johnson was born 15 November 1918 in Todd County, Kentucky. He enlisted in the Kentucky National Guard’s Company M, 149th Infantry, at Russellville, Logan County, Kentucky, on 16 January 1941. He was inducted into federal service on 18 January 1941.

Johnson died in the line of duty on 21 January 1944, at the Veterans’ Hospital in Nashville, Tennessee. He is buried in the Elkton, Kentucky Cemetery.

    PFC Earl Johnson Dies

    PFC Earl M. Johnson, son of Mr. and Rs. Jesse Johnson, died January 21, in the Veterans' Hospital, Nashville, Tenn. At the time of his death he was 15 years, 2 months and 7 days old.

    Young Johnson left Logan with Company M, January 17, 1941, and was sent to camp Shelby, Mississippi, with the 149th Infantry, 28th Division. He was in the service almost two years until his health failed while on maneuvers in Louisiana. From there he was sent to a California hospital, then to Brooks General Hospital, Houston, Texas. At the last, when nothing seemed to help, he was sent to Nashville in order to be nearer his home.

    Surviving are his wife, a small son, three brothers, two sisters, grandparents and a host of relatives and friends.

    Funeral service were conducted Tuesday, January 25, at the Elkton Methodist Church by Rev. C. P. Walton. Burial was in the Elkton Cemetery.
