Kennedy, Roy (P1, C2 L18)

Private Roy Kennedy, was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, on 26 June 1895. He enlisted in the Kentucky National Guard at Frankfort, Franklin County, Kentucky, on 17 May 1916, with Company L, 2nd Kentucky Infantry. He was honorably discharged on 27 July 1916, on a Surgeon's Certificate of disability. Kennedy re-enlisted with the Kentucky National Guard at Fort Thomas, 27 April 1917. While on federal active duty, he was transferred to Company G, 16th Infantry. Kennedy was killed in action in France, 5 July 1918. He is buried in the Somme American Cemetery, Bony, France.

    Frankfort, Ky., July 19. - "Killed in action” is the telegram received here tonight announcing the death of Roy Kennedy, 19 years old on the battlefields of France. Kennedy is the second Frankfort boy to make the supreme sacrifice. . .

    Kennedy has two brothers on their way to France. Every member of his family of military age has enlisted, none waiting to be drafted.
