Matero, Christopher A. (P3, C1, L26)
Technical Sergeant Christopher A. Matero, 31, of Indiana, a Combat controller for the 123rd Special Tactics Flight of the Kentucky Air National Guard perished when a U. S. Air Force MC-130H crashed during a training flight in Puerto Rico, 7 August 2002. Matero was training in Title 32 Status at the time of the incident. Pope Air Force Base near Fayetteville, North Carolina, named a road in honor of Matero and on 18 April 2008 opened the new Combat Control School at No. 1, Matero Drive. Matero had served as an instructor at the Combat Control School. Technical Sergeant Martin A. Tracy, of the 123rd Special Tactics Flight also died in the same crash. Matero is buried in the St. Denis Cemetery in Junction, New York.
