McAlister, Albert Denis (P2, C3, L22)
Private Albert D. McAlister was born at Ashland, Boyd County, Kentucky, 4 January 1916. He enlisted at Ashland on 1 May 1934, with Company G, 149th Infantry. Honorably discharged 14 September 1936, re-enlisted on 26 October 1940. Inducted into federal service on 18 January 1941. Relieved from active duty to state control, 5 December 1941. Recalled to active duty on 3 March 1942. While on active duty reassigned to the 715th Engineer Depot. McAlister died on 23 December 1943. He is buried in the North Africa American Cemetery, Carthage, Tunisia.

Mr. and Mrs. George McAlister, . . . 13th Street, have been notified by the War Department that their son, Pvt. Albert D. McAlister died in a hospital in Algeria, North Africa, December 23. He would have been 28 years old today.
McAlister was wounded in the invasion of Sicily July 10th and was dismissed from the hospital September 16. However, he was forced to re-enter the hospital November 1. During his time this had carried a bullet in his forehead and suffered severe headaches.
The family received letters from him regularly and expected his arrival home in the near future. His condition was thought to be much better and the news of his death came as a complete shock to his family and friends.
Pvt. McAlister entered the service with the National Guards of Ashland in January, 1941. He was sent overseas in June of last year. recently he sent the Purple Heart Medal to his wife, Mrs. Nola McAlister of Flatwoods, to keep for him.
He was a member of the Pollard Baptist Church, where he had attended services all his life.
Also surviving are three sisters, Mrs. C. C. Webster. Mrs. Juanita Fitch and Miss Rosamond McAlister of Ashland; two bothers, Buford McAlister and his twin, Allen McAlister, of Detroit.
