Scruggs, George Purnell, Jr. (P2, C4, L9)

Scruggs, G. P 001Private First Class George P. Scruggs, Jr. was born on 7 January 1920, at Leesburg, Virginia. He enlisted in the Kentucky National Guard at Lexington, Fayette County, Kentucky, on 5 May 1938, with Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 149th Infantry. He was inducted with his unit on 17 January 1941.

While on active duty he was transferred to the 157th Infantry Regiment. Scruggs was killed in action on 29 July 1943, at Sicilia, Italy, while serving with the 157th Infantry, 45th Infantry Division. He is buried in the Hillcrest Memorial Park, Lexington, Kentucky.
