Sergeant James Allen “Jim” Wray, 27, Nelson County, Kentucky, formerly Battery C, 2nd Battalion, 138th Field Artillery, was killed on 2 July 1969 in Vietnam while serving with Battery B, 1st Battalion, 40th Artillery, 108th Artillery Group. Wray was killed by injuries received while on a military operation when supporting artillery accidentally impacted the area.

A former Bardstown man Jimmy Wray, 27, has been listed as killed in Vietnam. Originally from the Cedar Creek [Cox's Creek] area of Nelson County, Wray had moved to Louisville about five years ago after marrying. He is survived by his wife, Ruby, two daughters, Cindy, 5, and Tracy, 2; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Wray, formerly of Nelson County, now residing at Harrodsburg; four sisters, Mrs. Nancy Pearl Stamper, Cedar Creek [Cox's Creek] section; Mrs. Herbert White, Mrs. Homer White, both of Harrodsburg, and Mrs. Giles White, Danville; and two brothers, Billy Wray, Lexington, and Benny Wray, Mercer County.
Wray is the sixth of the activated original Bardstown National Guard battery to die in Vietnam in the past two and a half weeks. His death occurred Wednesday, July 2. He had been transferred several months ago to another area away from other members of the Guard unit.
The body will be at Arch L. Heady Funeral Home, 8519 Preston Highway in Louisville upon arrival from Vietnam. Expected arrival will be from seven to twelve days.

Devoted father of Misses Cynthia and Tracy Ann Wray. Loving son of Mr. and Mrs. William Wray, Harrodsburg, Ky. Brother of Mrs. Fay White and Mrs. Alma White, both of Harrodsburg, Mrs. Thelma White, Danville, Mrs. Nancy Stamper, Bardstown, and Messrs. Benny Wray, Harrodsburg, Billy Wray, Lexington. Mr. Wray is resting at the Okolona Home of Arch L. Heady & Son, 8519 Preston Hgwy., where services will be conducted Tues. at 11 a.m. Interment in Resthaven Cemetery.
