Wright, Clarence Martin (P2, C4, L35)

Private Clarence M. Wright was born 23 June 1918, in Jeptha, Morgan County, Kentucky. He enlisted in the Kentucky National Guard on 8 May 1940, at Richmond, Madison County, Kentucky, with Company G, 133rd Medical Regiment. He was inducted into federal service on 30 June 1941. While on active duty he was transferred to Company I, 3rd Battalion, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division. Martin was killed in action on 6 June 1944, at Magneville, Department de la Manche, Basse-Normandie, France. It has been reported that he is buried in a cemetery in Morgan County, Kentucky.

He is memorialized at the Magneville Aircrew Memorial.

Pvt. Clarence M. Wright was a paratrooper from Co. I, 3rd Battalion, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division, being transported on board a C-47A Skytrain (#42-100905) from the 95th Troop Carrier Squadron, 440th Troop Carrier Group, 50th Troop Carrier Wing, IX Troop Carrier Command, 9th Air Force, being flown to Drop Zone D in the early morning hours of June 6, 1944, in support of the D-Day landings. The transport, code-named Chalk 15, was brought down by German anti-aircraft fire west of Magneville with the loss of Wright, the other 17 paratroopers from his battalion and the transport’s 4-man crew.

Wright is memorialized on a plaque in Magneville, France:
